New Blog Post: From Simulation to Sustainability—Optimising Integrated Cooling, Storage and Heat Recovery Systems

A new blog post is now available on the MODERATOR website, authored by the ARTEMIS Laboratory team at CERTH. The article explores how advanced modelling and assessment tools support the design and optimisation of MODERATOR’s integrated approach to immersion cooling, thermal energy storage, and waste heat recovery.

The post explains why complex, integrated systems cannot rely on physical testing alone and presents how MODERATOR engineers build comprehensive process simulation models to evaluate interactions between key components such as immersion cooling units, heat exchangers, pumps, storage modules, and heat recovery technologies. It also describes how dynamic virtual system development helps assess real-world operation under fluctuating data centre loads and variable end-user heat demand.

Beyond technical performance, the blog highlights how MODERATOR evaluates viability and sustainability through techno-economic analysis (TEA), life cycle costing (LCC), and life cycle assessment (LCA)—ensuring the solutions developed are not only efficient, but also financially and environmentally sound.
