5th Plenary Meeting of MODERATOR in Reykjavik on 15–16 June 2026

The MODERATOR consortium gathered in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 15–16 June 2026 for its 30-Month Plenary Meeting, bringing together partners from across Europe and Switzerland to review progress, discuss technical developments and align the next steps of the project.
The first day focused on technical updates from the project’s core development work packages. Partners presented progress on the immersion cooling system, waste-heat recovery systems, prototype design, construction, installation and validation, and systems and process simulation and optimization. These sessions were followed by a dedicated technical discussion, supporting coordination across the different components of the MODERATOR solution.

The second day focused on project coordination, sustainability and impact-related activities. Partners reviewed progress in project management, waste heat reutilization and sustainability analyses, and dissemination, exploitation and communication. The agenda also included a presentation on the Applied Sustainable Systems module by HSLU, highlighting how MODERATOR topics are being connected with education, real-world case studies and future engineers.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to align technical, exploitation and communication activities as MODERATOR moves into the next phase of implementation. Discussions focused on ensuring that the project’s work on immersion cooling, thermal energy storage, waste-heat recovery and sustainability assessment continues to progress in an integrated way.
The Reykjavik plenary reinforced MODERATOR’s overall vision: transforming data centres from energy-intensive infrastructures into active contributors to local circular energy systems through advanced cooling, heat recovery, storage and reutilisation pathways.
The consortium warmly thanks GEROSION for hosting the meeting in Reykjavik and all partners for their active participation and valuable contributions during the two-day event.
