MODERATOR Releases Its Second Newsletter: From Cooling Innovation to Useful Heat

The MODERATOR project is pleased to announce the release of its second official Newsletter, presenting the project’s main developments from January to June 2026.

This issue highlights recent progress across immersion cooling, thermal energy storage, waste-heat recovery, system modelling, sustainability assessment and potential heat-reuse applications.

The Newsletter also presents the outcomes of the project’s 24-Month Plenary Meeting in Serres and 30-Month Plenary Meeting in Reykjavik, where partners reviewed technical progress, aligned upcoming activities and explored practical pathways for recovering and reusing data-centre heat.

A featured story from Iceland follows the wider journey of heat, showing how geothermal infrastructure, district heating and carbon-management technologies can contribute to more integrated energy systems. The issue also includes five new technical blog posts from MODERATOR partners and two video presentations from Sustainable Places 2025.

Through these updates, the Newsletter demonstrates how MODERATOR is moving from individual technology development towards the integration, testing and assessment of solutions that can help data centres become more energy efficient and more closely connected with local energy systems.

To receive future project updates, readers are invited to subscribe to the MODERATOR Newsletter through the website:
